Compiled by John F. C. Johnson, Chugach Heritage Foundation. This expansive collection of legends from the Eyak people are illustrated with black & white photos and drawings. Originally, the Eyak people lived inland and then migrated to the ocean where they coexisted with the two powerful maritime nations of the Chugach and the Tlingit. Their choice upon reaching this new land was to fight, retreat, or join forces. They lived and fought together with their Tlingit Indian neighbors and did battle mainly against the Chugach. This led to the Eyaks slowing assimilating with the Tlingits and learning two languages. This blending of cultures worked well, since both cultures were socially organized with the clan system of the Eagle & Raven. Paperback, 1998, 134p.
